Nine East Network Sponsors Adventure Day For Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
Thirty-one Vermont students who are deaf and hard of hearing will be attending “Adventure Day” at Lotus Lake Discovery Center on May 20th, sponsored by Nine East Network.
Adventure Day is a special day for these children, from all corners of the state, to have fun and connect with each other, using either sign or spoken language or a combination of the two.
Nine East Network provides transportation and a barbecue lunch, and hires American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters for Lotus Lake Staff to engage students in team building activities, rope course challenges, skits, and entertainment.
Nine East Network staff, who serve as Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consultants for these students in schools throughout Vermont, will also be present, along with two former Vermont students serving as deaf and hard of hearing mentors, and several students’ parents and caregivers.
“Adventure Day” was formerly an annual event sponsored by the Vermont Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, prior to its closing in 2014.
Since October of 2014, Nine East Network has been operating the Vermont Deaf and Hard of Hearing program, and we are proud to revive the Adventure Day tradition again this year.
The goal of Adventure Day continues to be to provide a relaxed atmosphere, where deaf and hard of hearing students participate in outdoor activities that focus on learning about themselves and others.
We are all looking forward to a great day!
