Nine East Offering Second Six-Week “Beginning ASL Classes” – SIGN UP BELOW

We are happy to announce the second “Beginning American Sign Language (ASL) Class” series, starting July 6th.

Diane Parker

Diane Parker, ASL Instructor

The six-week “Beginning ASL” Class series will be taught by native signer Diane Parker in Montpelier.  Diane has served as an ASL instructor and deaf mentor for over twenty-five years.

Our Beginning ASL classes are ideal for hearing people who interact with deaf and hard of hearing children, such as siblings and other family members, friends, neighbors, teachers, and community members.

At Nine East Network, we hope to create more opportunities for hearing people to learn and connect with deaf and hard of hearing people who use ASL.

We welcome any level of signing skill or experience to this series, and offer it to anyone over the age of 14.

Learning how to sign with a deaf or hard of hearing child in your life will help improve their communication skills, deepen your relationship with them, and enrich both of your lives.

With Diane Parker’s expert instruction, our ASL class participants will learn appropriate vocabulary and ways to converse in ASL by interacting with other new signers, and understand real-life applications through activities.

The classes will take place at Nine East Network offices, just off of the College Green in Montpelier, at 9 West Street from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.

Dates of the classes are: July 6th, 13th and 27th, August 10th and 24th, and September 7th. Space is limited to 12 people.

These classes are helping to fulfill the mission of the Vermont Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program we operate — to empower children through access to language and communication.

We strive to make these classes financially accessible to all community members.  We are pleased to offer the 6-week class at the low rate of $50.  Pre-registration (below) is required.

Nine East Network plans to offer additional ASL class series in the Burlington area. Stay tuned on our blog and follow us on Facebook for more updates!
